Lots of exciting things are happening in MATTERnation these days! Partners are collaborating, projects are launching, and communities here in the United States and around the world are improving. Check out some of our recent project launches to improve communities:
In Healthcare
In collaboration with our amazing partners, we are improving access and quality of healthcare to communities around the world by procuring medical equipment and supplies from donating hospitals in the United States and shipping them to some of the hardest to reach areas of the world.
In October, we shipped a container to Guatemala through our partner, Food for the Poor; a container to Panama through Amigos de Boquete; and two shipments to Zimbabwe through Love for Africa. One of the containers went to the Victoria Falls Hospital and the other to a hospital in Bulawayo.
All these hospitals serve large populations and desperately need these medical equipment and supplies in order to provide dignified care to their patients. We’re honored to be able to help them and the communities they serve.
In Education
We believe all children deserve an education that prepares them for future success, regardless of where they live. That’s why the MATTER Innovation Hub (MIH) exists. Using the latest technology to promote active learning, problem-solving, and creativity in a student-centered learning environment, the MIH can be used anywhere in the world. And it is! There are currently twelve Innovation Hubs operating in the US and around the world including Haiti, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Afghanistan and Minnesota.
This fall, we launched a MATTER Innovation Hub Center at the Mosi High School in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. We’ve very excited as this is our first high school that is utilizing the core curricula from Apple of Everyone Can Code and Everyone Can Create. In the short time the Center has been open, the students are already demonstrating creativity and eagerness to learn. We can’t wait to see its impact on the students as the year continues.
In Healthy Food
Our MATTERbox initiatives expand access to healthy food in innovative & nontraditional ways. Through our meal kit offerings and snack packs, we provide our community partners with healthy food for the children and families they serve. But we need generous volunteers to pack the food before we can give it to our partners.
Recently, employees with Rush University Medical Center in Chicago hosted packing events at two of their locations and packed 200 single meal kits and 400 snack packs! Thank you, Rush University Medical Center! Your efforts will go a long way in providing nutritious and delicious food to children and families that need it most in your communities.
These are just a few of the recent project launches that are improving communities near and far. You can join us and help to impact communities where you live. We have many opportunities for you to get involved. Learn more here!
