General Mills Foodservice Partners with MATTER & Chartwells Higher Education to Host Volunteer Event on College Campuses Nationwide
About The Event
For the third year, General Mills Foodservice is partnering with Chartwells Higher Education and MATTER to engage college students in a mass, two-day volunteer effort to spread good in their communities and help fight food insecurity. This year’s “Good Goes Round” event will take place March 25-26 and unite 110 campuses to pack 44,000 MATTERbox snack packs—individual packs of healthy, snacks and nutrition education—to be distributed to local nonprofits, sports camps, after-school programs, college pantries, and health care providers.
Good Goes Round aims to help colleges and universities improve the health of their communities in a turnkey way that promotes volunteerism. Since 2018, the effort has resulted in more than 120,700 MATTERbox packs and the donation of more than two tons of Cheerios and 242,000 Nature Valley bars.
How It Works
- Participating schools receive a pallet containing all the materials to assemble and fill 200 snack packs to distribute in their community. They also receive detailed instructions about how to promote and conduct their event along with digital assets to help drive traffic.
- Once the event is set up, students are asked to volunteer their time, whether it’s five minutes or more, to join an assembly line of others packing the snack packs.
- Each pack will include General Mills’ items such as Cheerios and Nature Valley bars, along with other healthy food items. The packs also include nutrition information and a YOU MATTER® note, offering a way for participants to share an inspirational message with the recipient.
The campuses choose a community partner to donate the snack packs.
